Jamie Dimon states AI will reduce banking jobs at JPMorgan while increasing hiring for AI roles and efficiency.
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said artificial intelligence will lead to fewer traditional banking jobs at the firm, which holds $4.4 trillion in assets. Dimon noted the bank will hire more AI specialists and fewer bankers in certain areas, enhancing productivity across operations like marketing and fraud detection.
The bank’s latest annual report showed stable overall headcount but a 4% decline in operations and support roles, while client-facing positions grew by 4%. Dimon emphasized AI’s expanding role, calling current applications just “the tip of the iceberg.”
The remarks follow Standard Chartered’s announcement of 7,800 job cuts by 2030, reflecting broader industry shifts toward automation.
