A new USDA-backed initiative targets an 800 million-pound protein gap for food-insecure households with refrigeration funding and low-cost supplies.
Motivational speaker Tony Robbins has committed roughly $10 million to a $40 million partnership aimed at closing America’s 800 million-pound protein shortfall for food-insecure families. The effort, coordinated with the USDA and Hatch for Hunger, funds refrigeration infrastructure for food pantries while supplying protein at a $0.01 margin below wholesale prices.
Food banks have long struggled with refrigeration costs and protein sourcing, limiting access for households facing unexpected expenses like $500 or $600 bills. Government support for such programs has declined amid reports of abuse, exacerbating shortages despite global food production sufficient for 8.2 billion people.
The initiative precedes World Hunger Day and reflects broader concerns over grocery inflation and affordability pressures in low-income communities.
