UAE-based ALEC secures contract for Abu Dhabi’s first immersive entertainment venue outside the US, set for 2029 completion.
Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism awarded a $1.7bn construction contract to ALEC Engineering and Contracting for Sphere Abu Dhabi. The project, located on Yas Island, will be the second global venue of its kind after Las Vegas’s Sphere, which opened in September 2023.
The venue will accommodate up to 20,000 people and feature advanced immersive technologies for events including concerts, sports, and conferences. Completion is targeted for Q3 2029, with infrastructure coordination underway among local agencies and developers.
Sphere Abu Dhabi aims to host multi-sensory experiences, artist residencies, and large-scale events, aligning with Abu Dhabi’s broader entertainment and tourism expansion plans.
