Charles Schwab CEO Rick Wurster said the firm will prioritize wealth-building strategies over meme coins and gambling-like trading to attract customers. The approach contrasts with younger competitors relying on transaction-based revenue models, which he called unsustainable for long-term growth.

Schwab’s stock fell 16% from a peak of $107 to $90 in February after investor concerns about its position in the AI era. A smaller rival’s AI-driven tax planning tool sparked a sell-off in wealth management stocks, prompting Schwab to emphasize its traditional, outcome-focused business model.

Wurster stated Schwab avoids the “transactions business,” where firms profit from frequent trading rather than client wealth growth. The company generates a smaller share of revenue from trading compared to competitors, reinforcing its focus on stability and long-term outcomes.
