April core PCE inflation is forecast to slow to 0.26% month-on-month, easing pressure for near-term Fed rate cuts.

US core Personal Consumption Expenditures inflation likely moderated to 0.26% month-on-month in April, down from March’s 0.32%, according to forecasts. Headline PCE is expected to rise 0.43% on the month, translating to 3.3% and 3.8% year-on-year, respectively. Nominal and real personal spending are also projected to soften, reflecting weaker consumer demand.

The March core PCE print came in at 0.32% m/m, while headline rose 0.3%. Year-on-year figures stood at 2.8% and 2.7%, respectively. Analysts had anticipated a slight uptick in inflation pressures, but April’s data may signal a cooling trend, particularly in supercore services, offsetting shelter strength.

Federal Reserve officials are expected to maintain a cautious tone in upcoming communications. Hawks may argue for reducing the easing bias, while doves will likely emphasize patience without signaling rate hikes as the next move.
