State seeks $1.8M in penalties and restitution for violations tied to 136 Missouri kiosks operated by the firm.
Missouri’s Attorney General filed a lawsuit against crypto ATM operator CoinFlip, alleging violations of the state’s Merchandising Practices Act. The suit seeks civil penalties of $1,000 per violation, potentially totaling $1,826,000, along with restitution for consumers and a ban on CoinFlip’s operations in the state.
CoinFlip operates 136 crypto kiosks in Missouri and 4,229 across the U.S. Regulatory scrutiny of crypto ATMs has intensified, with states like Minnesota considering outright bans following reports of scams. Bitcoin Depot, another major operator, recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy amid legal challenges and financial strain.
The lawsuit follows a May 2025 warning about fraud risks associated with crypto ATMs. CoinFlip has not responded to requests for comment on the legal action.
