Labour government introduces free bus travel for children and tariff cuts on 100+ food items to ease household budgets.

UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced a £250 million cost-of-living package, including free bus travel for children aged five to 15 in England during August. The measure, funded by a £100 million government commitment, targets immediate relief for families amid rising living costs.

The package also includes planned tariff reductions on over 100 food products, such as biscuits, chocolate, and dried fruit, expected to deliver £150 million in consumer savings. The full product list will be released next week, following heavy local election losses for Labour.

The announcement follows motor fuel tax breaks and relief for hauliers introduced the previous day, as the government seeks to regain political momentum.
