Constellation Energy, NRG, and Vistra shares rise after PJM Interconnection speeds up data center energy connections.
Shares of Constellation Energy (CEG), NRG Energy (NRG), and Vistra (VST) climbed in Wednesday trading after PJM Interconnection, the largest U.S. electric grid operator, advanced its timeline to connect data centers with energy producers. The move aims to address surging power demand from AI and cloud computing growth.
PJM previously projected a slower integration process, but rising data center inquiries prompted the acceleration. The grid serves 65 million customers across 13 states and Washington, D.C., making its policy shifts closely watched by utility investors.
Utility stocks led gains in the sector, with CEG, NRG, and VST posting mid-single-digit percentage increases in early trading.
