General Motors commits $1.3 billion to expand transmission and V8 engine production across three US plants.
General Motors will invest an additional $1.3 billion to increase production capacity at three US plants. The funds include $300 million for a Detroit-area facility, $40 million for an Ohio plant, and $505 million for an Ontario propulsion factory to build next-generation V8 engines for trucks and SUVs.
The automaker previously announced a $35 billion push into electric and autonomous vehicles but faced billions in write-downs due to shifting demand and policy changes. These new investments target near-term profitability, focusing on high-margin internal combustion engines and transmissions.
The latest commitments follow a $300 million investment in the Detroit plant last year and a $150 million expansion at a Michigan metal-casting facility to support Chevrolet Corvette and full-size pickup production.
