US skips Taiwan discussion with China despite $11 billion arms sales
The US has avoided discussing Taiwan with China, despite a record $11 billion in arms sales to the island.
The US had announced the arms sales in December, against Beijing’s wishes.
The topic was expected to be on the agenda for the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, but it was not mentioned in the initial White House readout.
China’s official readout included a warning from Xi that mishandling Taiwan would put the US-China relationship in jeopardy.
