The company resumes operations at Shirley Basin, targeting 2 million pounds annual U3O8 capacity with ISR technology.
Ur-Energy Inc. (URG) has reactivated its Shirley Basin uranium mine in Wyoming, idle since 1992, marking its second active U.S. uranium operation. The project employs in situ recovery (ISR) technology, a low-impact extraction method, with uranium capture already underway in Mine Unit 1.
Shirley Basin holds licensed annual capacity of up to 2 million pounds of U3O8 and measured resources of 9.1 million pounds at 0.22% average grade. The mine is expected to operate for nine years across three shallow units, leveraging historical significance as the birthplace of ISR uranium mining.
The company anticipates gradual increases in uranium concentrations as additional production circuits come online, reinforcing its position in the domestic uranium supply chain.
