Robust US retail data and Federal Reserve leadership changes lift the USD, pressuring the Swiss Franc amid deflationary pressures in Switzerland.

USD/CHF climbed to 0.7850 in Asian trading, marking a fifth consecutive day of gains. The advance follows stronger-than-expected US Retail Sales, which rose 0.5% month-over-month in April and 4.9% year-over-year, surpassing estimates of 3.3% growth.

The data underscores resilient consumer spending despite elevated borrowing costs. Meanwhile, shifts in Federal Reserve leadership, including the resignation of Stephen Miran and potential appointment of Kevin Warsh as Fed Chair, have bolstered the USD. Market expectations of prolonged high interest rates or further hikes persist amid surging inflation linked to Middle East tensions.

In Switzerland, a 2.0% year-over-year decline in producer and import prices in April extends a deflationary trend, reducing the likelihood of Swiss National Bank rate hikes. The SNB may maintain its 0% policy rate or intervene to weaken the Franc.
