Chicago Federal Reserve President Austan Goolsbee stated that inflation will surge again if central bank independence is eroded. Speaking in Illinois, he emphasized that recent CPI data shows little positive progress, with services inflation rising unexpectedly and broader inflation trends moving in the wrong direction.

Goolsbee noted that while the labor market remains stable, it is not performing strongly. He also downplayed concerns about systemic risks from private credit, comparing current interconnections with conventional institutions as less severe than those during the 2007-2009 financial crisis.

The US Dollar strengthened against major currencies, including the British Pound, amid the remarks.
