Qatar has instructed vessels near its Ras Laffan LNG port to turn off transponders as a safety precaution. The move affects the world’s second-largest LNG exporter, with the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz already trapping about 20% of daily global LNG shipments.

Prior to this, Qatar and the UAE accounted for a significant portion of LNG exports through the strait. Recent Iranian drone and missile strikes on regional energy infrastructure have escalated security concerns, prompting the measure.

No immediate market reaction was reported, but the disruption could tighten global LNG supply if prolonged.
