India has rejected offers to purchase liquefied natural gas from Russian projects under US sanctions, ending speculation over a potential first shipment. A 138,200-cubic-metre tanker, Kunpeng, was previously reported en route from Russia’s Baltic Portovaya plant to India’s Dahej LNG terminal.
The shipment would have marked India’s first import of Russian LNG subject to US sanctions. Reports last month indicated the tanker was carrying sanctioned LNG, raising concerns over compliance with Western restrictions.
No immediate market reaction was reported, though the decision reinforces India’s cautious stance on energy imports tied to sanctions.
