The gaming-focused blockchain will halt transactions for 10 hours to transition, aiming to improve security and reduce token inflation after a $625 million exploit.

Ronin, the blockchain behind Axie Infinity, will transition from an independent sidechain to an Ethereum layer 2 on May 12, causing a 10-hour network outage. The migration aims to enhance security, scalability, and tokenomics following a $625 million bridge exploit in 2022.

The hard fork, scheduled at block 55,577,490, will pause all transactions and onchain game actions during the downtime. The shift to the OP Stack and a new Proof of Distribution model is expected to sharply cut RON token inflation and lower costs.

Ronin announced the migration in April, citing the need for a faster, more efficient network to support gaming applications. The transition follows a period of recovery after the record-breaking exploit.
