Sony Semiconductor Solutions and TSMC have agreed to form a joint venture to produce next-generation image sensors. Sony will hold the majority stake in the partnership, which will establish manufacturing lines at a new plant in Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.
The collaboration aims to merge Sony’s image sensor expertise with TSMC’s semiconductor process technology. Discussions are ongoing regarding phased investments, including potential upgrades to Sony’s Nagasaki facility, contingent on market demand and support.
TSMC’s Kevin Zhang stated the partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing sensing technology. The venture targets high-performance sensor production, though financial details remain undisclosed.
