Woodside Energy’s Browse to North West Shelf project is projected to deliver a $102 billion uplift to Australia’s GDP and $106 billion to Western Australia’s gross state product over the long term. The assessment, conducted by Deloitte Access Economics, also forecasts $40.6 billion in taxes, royalties, and excise, including $14.3 billion from petroleum resource rent tax.

The project could support nearly 4,800 full-time equivalent jobs at peak operations, with 80% of economic benefits flowing to sectors outside oil and gas, such as construction and services. Western Australia’s energy security and industries like critical minerals processing may also benefit.

Woodside CEO Liz Westcott called Browse Australia’s largest undeveloped offshore gas resource, emphasizing its strategic importance amid rising energy security concerns. The project involves transporting gas from offshore fields to the Karratha Gas Plant.
